Meaning of 哈哈
Definitions from CC-CEDICT.
- (onom.) laughing out loud
How to use 哈哈
哈哈 (hāhā) imitates loud, happy laughter in speech and especially in texting and comments. People often stretch it to 哈哈哈 or longer to show something is really funny. Example: 哈哈,你太有意思了。(Hāhā, nǐ tài yǒu yìsi le.) Haha, you are so funny.
哈 has the mouth radical 口 on the left, so think of a mouth wide open. Write it twice, 哈哈 (hāhā), and you hear a big laugh coming out of that mouth.
Common mistake: Learners sometimes give 哈 a third or fourth tone. In 哈哈 both syllables are first tone, hāhā, high and level. Also do not confuse 哈 with 恰 (qià), which has the heart radical 忄 instead of the mouth 口.
