How to use 价
价 (jià) rarely stands alone in speech. It usually appears in compounds like 价格 (jiàgé), 价钱 (jiàqián), and 价值 (jiàzhí), or after a noun to mean the price of that thing, as in 票价 (piàojià) or 房价 (fángjià). Example: 最近房价又涨了。(Zuìjìn fángjià yòu zhǎng le.) Housing prices have gone up again recently.
价 has the person radical 亻 on the left and 介 (jiè) on the right. Picture a person 亻 standing between buyer and seller as a go-between 介, naming the price.
Common mistake: Learners often write 介 (jiè) or 份 (fèn) by mistake. 介 has no person radical, and 份 has 分 on the right instead of 介. Also keep the fourth tone in 价 (jià); do not say it like 家 (jiā).
