入学 is a formal word for starting at a school, whether a child starting first grade or a student enrolling at a university. It often appears in set phrases like 入学考试 (rùxué kǎoshì, entrance exam) and 入学手续 (rùxué shǒuxù, enrollment procedures). Example: 他今年九月入学。(Tā jīnnián jiǔyuè rùxué.) He starts school this September.
