How to use 取
取 means to take, get, or fetch, and it often appears with things you go somewhere to collect, like money, packages, or tickets. It is also very common in two-character words such as 取得 (qǔdé), 取消 (qǔxiāo) and 争取 (zhēngqǔ). Example: 我去银行取钱。(Wǒ qù yínháng qǔ qián.) I am going to the bank to withdraw money.
取 (qǔ) is made of 耳 (ear) on the left and 又 (a hand) on the right. Picture a hand reaching out and grabbing something by the ear to take it.
Common mistake: Learners often mix up 取 (qǔ, third tone) with 趣 (qù, fourth tone) in 有趣 (yǒuqù, interesting), because 趣 contains 取. Also do not confuse it with 娶 (qǔ, to marry a wife), which has the same sound but adds 女 underneath.
