Meaning of 我
Definitions from CC-CEDICT.
- I; me; my
How to use 我
我 (wǒ) means both "I" and "me," since Chinese pronouns do not change form. For "my," you usually add 的 (de), as in 我的书 (wǒ de shū, my book), but with close family or groups it is often dropped. Example: 我是学生。(Wǒ shì xuésheng.) I am a student.
Think of 我 (wǒ) as a person holding a weapon with a hand on the left and a spear-like 戈 (gē) on the right, standing up to say "this is me." The 戈 shape on the right is the part to remember when you write it.
Common mistake: Learners often confuse 我 with 找 (zhǎo, to look for), which has the hand radical 扌 on the left and lacks the extra stroke at the top left. Also remember that before another third tone, 我 is pronounced closer to second tone, so 我很好 sounds like wó hěn hǎo.
