How to use 票
票 (piào) is the everyday word for a ticket, and it also appears in words for ballots, stamps and receipts, such as 投票 (tóupiào) to vote and 发票 (fāpiào) invoice. On its own it usually needs a classifier: 一张票 (yì zhāng piào) one ticket. Example: 我买了两张票。(Wǒ mǎi le liǎng zhāng piào.) I bought two tickets.
The top of 票 looks like 西 (xī) and the bottom is 示 (shì), which means to show. Picture a ticket you have to show at the gate before you go in.
Common mistake: Learners often confuse 票 (piào) with 漂 (piào or piāo), as in 漂亮 (piàoliang) pretty. The water radical 氵 on the left marks 漂. Also remember to use 张 (zhāng), not 个 (gè), when counting paper tickets.
