Meaning of 赶快
Definitions from CC-CEDICT.
- quickly; at once
How to use 赶快
赶快 goes right before a verb and is common in spoken Chinese for urging someone, or yourself, to act right away. Example: 赶快走吧,要下雨了。(Gǎnkuài zǒu ba, yào xià yǔ le.) Let's hurry and go, it's about to rain.
赶 (gǎn) has the 走 (walk, run) part on the left, so think of someone running to catch up. Add 快 (kuài, fast) and you get running fast: hurry up, quickly.
Common mistake: Learners sometimes write 赶 with 足 or 走 squeezed wrong, or confuse it with 起 (qǐ), which also uses 走 but has 己 on the right. Also, 赶快 cannot follow a verb like 快 can: say 赶快吃 (gǎnkuài chī), not 吃赶快.
