- to resign
How to use 辞职
辞职 is a verb-object word used when someone quits a job by their own choice. It is common in everyday talk and in the workplace. Example: 他上个月辞职了。(Tā shàng ge yuè cízhí le.) He resigned last month.
辞 (cí) means to take leave or decline, and 职 (zhí) means a job or post, as in 职位 (zhíwèi). Put them together: you take leave of your post, so you resign.
Common mistake: Because 辞职 already contains its object, learners wrongly say 辞职工作 or 辞职公司. Say 辞去工作 (cíqù gōngzuò), or just 从公司辞职 (cóng gōngsī cízhí).
