Meaning of 再也

Definitions from CC-CEDICT.

zàiyě
  1. (not) ever again; (not) any longer

How to use 再也

再也 is almost always followed by a negative like 不 (bù) or 没 (méi) to say something will never happen again or no longer happens. Example: 我再也不喝酒了。(Wǒ zài yě bù hē jiǔ le.) I will never drink again.

再 (zài) means again and 也 (yě) means also or even. Put them together before a negative: "even again, not" becomes "never again."

Common mistake: Learners often drop the negative and say 我再也喝酒, which is wrong. 再也 needs 不 or 没 after it. Also do not put the negative first, as in 不再也. Say 再也不.
