Meaning of 出国
Definitions from CC-CEDICT.
- to go abroad; to leave the country
How to use 出国
出国 is a verb-object phrase used for traveling, studying or working abroad. It often appears before purposes like 留学 or 旅游. Example: 我明年想出国留学。(Wǒ míngnián xiǎng chūguó liúxué.) I want to go abroad to study next year.
出 (chū) means to go out, and 国 (guó) means country, so 出国 is simply going out of your country. Picture walking out through the border wall of 国, the enclosure that surrounds the inside of a country.
Common mistake: Learners often say 出国到美国 or put a destination right after 出国, but 出国 already contains its object. To name the place, say 去美国 (qù Měiguó) instead. Also do not confuse 出国 (to go abroad, an action) with 国外 (guó wài, abroad, a place), as in 他在国外 (he is abroad).
