How to use 并且

并且 links two verbs, clauses or sentences, adding a second action or point. It is a bit more formal than 和 and often appears in writing and speeches. Example: 他会说中文，并且说得很好。(Tā huì shuō Zhōngwén, bìngqiě shuō de hěn hǎo.) He can speak Chinese, and he speaks it very well.

并 (bìng) means side by side, as in 合并 (hébìng) to merge, and 且 (qiě) means also. Two things standing side by side, and also: 并且 joins them together.
