Definitions from CC-CEDICT.
- to forget
- to overlook
- to neglect
How to use 忘
忘 is a common verb, often followed by 了 or used in the longer form 忘记 (wàngjì). It can also mean you forgot to do something. Example: 我忘了带钥匙。(Wǒ wàng le dài yàoshi.) I forgot to bring my keys.
忘 is made of 亡 (wáng, lost or gone) on top of 心 (xīn, heart or mind). When something is gone from your mind, you have forgotten it.
Common mistake: Learners often confuse 忘 (wàng, to forget) with 忙 (máng, busy). Both contain 亡, but in 忙 the heart radical 忄 stands on the left, while in 忘 the full 心 sits at the bottom. Also keep the fourth tone in wàng, not the second tone of 亡 (wáng).
