How to use 整个
整个 goes before a noun to stress all of something with nothing left out, often with a measure word or 的 dropped. It is common with time and places, and often pairs with 都 (dōu). Example: 我整个下午都在看书。(Wǒ zhěnggè xiàwǔ dōu zài kàn shū.) I spent the whole afternoon reading.
整 (zhěng) means whole or neat, as in 完整 (wánzhěng) complete. 个 (gè) is the general measure word for one item, so 整个 is literally "the whole one".
Common mistake: Learners often say 整个人们 to mean "all people". That is wrong. 整个 means one whole thing, not every member of a group, so use 所有的人 (suǒyǒu de rén) for "all people". Also keep the third tone on 整 (zhěng). Do not confuse it with 正 (zhèng), which has the fourth tone.
