Meaning of 有的
Definitions from CC-CEDICT.
- (there are) some (who are...)
- some (exist)
How to use 有的
有的 goes before a noun or stands alone as a subject to pick out part of a group, and it is often repeated to contrast two parts. Example: 有的人喜欢茶,有的人喜欢咖啡。(Yǒude rén xǐhuan chá, yǒude rén xǐhuan kāfēi.) Some people like tea, some like coffee.
有 (yǒu) means "to have" or "there is," and 的 (de) turns it into "the ones that exist." So 有的 points to "the ones there are," meaning "some" out of a group.
Common mistake: Learners often put 有的 after the verb or in object position, as in 我买了有的书. It normally comes at the start of the subject, so say 有的书我买了 or use 一些 instead: 我买了一些书. Also, 的 here is light and toneless, so do not stress it as dì or dí.
