How to use 状况
状况 is often used for the condition of health, finances, traffic, equipment, or a relationship, and it often follows words like 身体 (shēntǐ) or 经济 (jīngjì). Example: 他的身体状况很好。(Tā de shēntǐ zhuàngkuàng hěn hǎo.) His health is in good condition.
Think of 状 (zhuàng) as the shape or form of something, as in 形状 (xíngzhuàng), and 况 (kuàng) as the circumstances, as in 情况 (qíngkuàng). Put together, 状况 (zhuàngkuàng) is the form things are in right now: their condition.
Common mistake: Learners often write 况 with the water radical 氵 instead of the ice radical 冫. 况 has only two dots on the left. Both syllables are fourth tone, so say zhuàngkuàng with two falling tones, not kuāng.
