How to use 相关
相关 is often used before a noun to mean relevant or related, as in 相关信息 (relevant information), or with 与/和 to say two things are connected. Example: 这个问题和天气相关。(Zhège wèntí hé tiānqì xiāngguān.) This problem is related to the weather.
相 (xiāng) means each other, and 关 (guān) appears in 关系 (guānxi), relationship. Two things that have a relationship with each other are 相关, related.
Common mistake: Learners sometimes read 相 as xiàng because of 相机 (xiàngjī) and 照相, but in 相关 it is first tone, xiāng. Also, do not say 我相关他 to mean I am related to him. Use 和……相关 for things, and 亲戚 (qīnqi) for family relatives.
