Meaning of 进入
Definitions from CC-CEDICT.
- to enter; to go into
How to use 进入
进入 is a bit more formal than 进来 (jìnlái) or 进去 (jìnqù). It is common with places, stages, and abstract things like a new period or a market. Example: 我们进入了新的阶段。(Wǒmen jìnrù le xīn de jiēduàn.) We have entered a new stage.
进入 (jìnrù) pairs two characters that both mean going in. 进 (jìn) means to advance or enter, and 入 (rù) looks like a person stepping forward through an opening, so together they say "go in" twice for emphasis.
Common mistake: Learners often write 入 (rù) as 人 (rén) or 八 (bā). In 入 the left stroke is short and the right stroke is long and starts higher, the reverse of 人. Also, in casual speech, people say 进来 or 进去 rather than 进入 for simply walking into a room.
