Meaning of 请进
Definitions from CC-CEDICT.
- "please come in"
How to use 请进
请进 is what you say when someone knocks or stands at your door, like an office, classroom, or home. It is often followed by other polite host phrases such as 请坐 (qǐng zuò). Example: 门开着,请进。(Mén kāi zhe, qǐng jìn.) The door is open, please come in.
请 (qǐng) means please, and 进 (jìn) means to enter. Put them together and you get the polite phrase a host says at the door: please enter.
Common mistake: Learners often say 请进来 or 请进去 without knowing the difference. 进来 (jìnlái) means coming in toward the speaker, so a host inviting you in would say 请进来, while 请进去 asks someone to go in somewhere away from the speaker. Also, 请 is third tone, so the two words together sound like qíng jìn only if you mishear it. Keep 请 as a low dipping qǐng.
