Meaning of 预习
Definitions from CC-CEDICT.
- to prepare a lesson
How to use 预习
预习 is used by students for reading or working through material before class. It often appears with 课文 (kèwén, the lesson text) or with time words like 上课前 (before class). Example: 上课前我先预习课文。(Shàngkè qián wǒ xiān yùxí kèwén.) Before class I preview the text first.
预 (yù) means "in advance," as in 预计 (yùjì) to forecast, and 习 (xí) means "to study or practice," as in 学习 (xuéxí). So 预习 is studying in advance, before the teacher covers the lesson.
Common mistake: Learners often mix up 预习 (yùxí) and 复习 (fùxí). 预习 is studying before the lesson, and 复习 is reviewing after it. Also keep 预 in the fourth tone, yù, not yú.
