频道 is used for TV and radio channels, and today also for channels on apps, chat groups, and video platforms. It usually takes the measure word 个 (gè). Example: 你在看哪个频道？(Nǐ zài kàn nǎ ge píndào?) Which channel are you watching?
频 (pín) means frequent, and 道 (dào) means a road or path. A channel is a path that a signal travels along at a set frequency, so 频道 is the frequency road you tune into.
Common mistake: Learners sometimes write 频 with 页 on the wrong side or confuse it with 顺 (shùn). In 频, 步 is on the left and 页 is on the right. Also keep the tones as píndào, second tone then fourth tone, and do not soften 道 the way people often do in 知道 (zhīdao).
