登录 is the everyday word for logging in to an app, website, or account, and it often appears on buttons next to 注册 (zhùcè, to sign up). Example: 请先登录你的账号。(Qǐng xiān dēnglù nǐ de zhànghào.) Please log in to your account first.
登 (dēng) means to climb up or step onto, as in 登山 (dēngshān), and 录 (lù) means to record, as in 记录 (jìlù). When you log in, you step onto a website and the system records that you are there.
