How to use 认出

认出 describes the moment you successfully identify a person, voice, or thing, often one you have not seen for a while or that has changed. It is often followed by a person or thing as its object, or expanded to 认出来 (rèn chūlái). Example: 我一眼就认出了他。(Wǒ yì yǎn jiù rènchū le tā.) I recognized him at a glance.

认 (rèn) means to recognize or identify, and 出 (chū) means to come out. When you 认出 someone, their identity comes out of the crowd and you know who they are.

Common mistake: Learners often use 认识 (rènshi) when they mean 认出. 认识 means you know someone in general, while 认出 is the act of spotting and identifying them at a specific moment, so say 我没认出你 (Wǒ méi rènchū nǐ) for "I didn't recognize you," not 我没认识你.
