How to use 题
题 most often means an exam or exercise question, and it also appears in many words like 问题 (wèntí), 话题 (huàtí) and 标题 (biāotí). Questions on a test are counted with 道 (dào). Example: 这道题很难。(Zhè dào tí hěn nán.) This question is very hard.
题 is made of 是 (shì) on the left and 页 (yè, head or page) on the right. Picture the topic written at the head of a page: the question that is the main thing to answer.
Common mistake: Learners often use 题 alone to mean a question they want to ask a person. For that you need 问题 (wèntí), as in 我有一个问题 (wǒ yǒu yí gè wèntí), while 题 alone means a problem on a test or worksheet. Also keep the second tone tí, not tì.
