Meaning of 短期
Definitions from CC-CEDICT.
- short-term
How to use 短期
短期 is used before nouns or as a time phrase to describe something that lasts only a while, such as jobs, courses, or plans. It often pairs with its opposite 长期 (chángqī, long-term). Example: 我在北京找了一个短期工作。(Wǒ zài Běijīng zhǎo le yí ge duǎnqī gōngzuò.) I found a short-term job in Beijing.
短 (duǎn) means short and 期 (qī) means a period of time, the same 期 you see in 星期 (xīngqī, week). Put them together and you get a short period: short-term.
Common mistake: Learners sometimes write 短 with the wrong left side. The left part is 矢 (shǐ), not 石 or 失. Also keep the third tone on 短 (duǎn) and the first tone on 期 (qī). Do not say it like duàn.
