How to use 加入
加入 is used for joining an organization, team, or group, and also for adding an ingredient into something. It usually takes a direct object. Example: 我想加入篮球队。(Wǒ xiǎng jiārù lánqiú duì.) I want to join the basketball team.
加入 combines 加 (jiā, to add) and 入 (rù, to enter). You add yourself to a group and enter it, so you join.
Common mistake: Learners often use 加入 for events, but you 参加 (cānjiā) a meeting, exam, or party and 加入 a club or party as a member. Also, 入 (rù) is easily confused with 人 (rén). In 入 the left stroke is the short one, while in 人 it is the long one.
