签约 is common in business, sports and entertainment news, for example when a company, athlete or singer signs a deal. It works as a verb, and the other party is usually introduced with 和 or 与. Example: 他和一家大公司签约了。(Tā hé yì jiā dà gōngsī qiānyuē le.) He signed a contract with a big company.
