How to use 重量
重量 is a fairly formal noun used for the weight of objects, packages, luggage and goods. In casual talk about body weight, people usually say 体重 (tǐzhòng) instead. Example: 这个箱子的重量是二十公斤。(Zhège xiāngzi de zhòngliàng shì èrshí gōngjīn.) The weight of this box is twenty kilograms.
重 (zhòng) means heavy and 量 (liàng) means amount or measure. Put them together and you get the measured amount of heaviness: weight.
Common mistake: 重 has two readings. Here it is zhòng (heavy), not chóng (again) as in 重新 (chóngxīn) or 重复 (chóngfù). Also, 量 is liàng (fourth tone) in 重量, not the second tone liáng used in the verb 量 (liáng), to measure.
