Meaning of 似的
Definitions from CC-CEDICT.
- seems as if
- rather like
- Taiwan pr. [si4 de5]
How to use 似的
似的 comes at the end of a comparison, often paired with 像 (xiàng) or 好像 (hǎoxiàng) at the start: 像……似的. It describes how something seems or what it resembles. Example: 他高兴得像个孩子似的。(Tā gāoxìng de xiàng ge háizi shìde.) He was as happy as a child.
似 (sì) means to resemble, and 的 (de) is the little particle that wraps up a description. Put them together at the end of a phrase and you get "like that" or "as if."
Common mistake: Learners often read 似 as sì here, but in 似的 it is pronounced shì (with 的 as a neutral de). Learners also tend to put 似的 before the thing being compared, but it always comes after it, as in 像雪似的, not 似的雪.

Questions about 似的
What does 似的 mean?
似的 (shìde) means "seems as if; rather like" and is used as a auxiliary verb.
How do you write 似的?
似的 is made of 2 characters: 似 (6 strokes), 的 (8 strokes). That is 14 strokes in total.
Is 似的 an HSK word?
Yes. 似的 is on the HSK 4 vocabulary list of the HSK 3.0 standard.
What is the difference between 似的 and 一样?
Both can close a 像…… comparison, as in 像……一样 and 像……似的. 一样 (yíyàng) can also mean "the same" in a literal comparison, while 似的 only gives the feeling of "as if" or "like." 似的 also sounds more colloquial and vivid.
Can I use 似的 without 像 or 好像?
Yes. In speech people often drop 像, as in 他飞似的跑了 (tā fēi shìde pǎo le), "he ran off as if flying." Adding 像 or 好像 makes the comparison clearer, but it is not required.
